WHAT ARE WE DOING?

While we understand that the best way of helping our environment is to reduce the amount of carbon emissions we produce, we also realise that in the Scientific Research Industries this is not always easy as you require high powered instrumentation to assist your studies.

Therefore, in combination with a program to assist you in reducing carbon emissions in your laboratory, we would like to help you reduce the effect of the carbon emissions you can't reduce.

Planting trees is an effective way to absorb  the carbon dioxide emissions in the atmosphere.

At Quantum, we understand that we are all responsible for carbon emissions and we must all make an effort to reduce the impact on the environment. In our endeavour to become more environmentally friendly as a company, Quantum Scientific is running the carbon credit program on a range of our products.

WHAT ARE CARBON CREDITS?

The Carbon Credits system is based on a tradable permit scheme. It provides a way to reduce greenhouse emissions by giving them a monetary value. Quantum Scientific purchases these credits for a value off a Carbon Credit Development Company that funds the planting of native vegetation in the Macedon Ranges in Victoria. This value is worked out as the cost to plant enough vegetation to offset one tonne of carbon emissions.

We have used the energy consumption rating supplied to us by our equipment manufacturers to work out the approximate energy consumption each of our units uses each year. This energy consumption is recorded in tonnes of carbon emitted and we then purchase one Carbon Credit for each tonne of carbon the instrument produces.

The Carbon Credit Development Company we purchase the credits from then uses the funding we have provided to plant vegetation consisting of pre-1750 species including eucalypts, wattles, native grasses and wild flowers. These plants and trees existed in Australia prior to European settlement. As a result, not only are we offsetting your carbon emissions, but we are also helping to restore biodiversity and essential habitat for native fauna, improve water quality and salinity problems. This native vegetation will be protected for at least 100 years and this will ensure the benefits will be around for generations to come.

HOW THIS PROGRAM WORKS?

When you purchase a selected range of Sanyo equipment from Quantum, we will purchase carbon credits to offset the carbon footprint of this unit for a period of time. So that you can be rest assured that you are not leaving any carbon footprint behind you when turning on the equipment.
